If you are looking for an experience that engages all five senses rather than just blaring loud music at you, JOYÀ at Vidanta Riviera Maya is the ticket you need. This is the first resident Cirque du Soleil show in Mexico, and it brings a distinct flavor to the brand's legendary portfolio.
The production is housed in a custom-built theater that feels surprisingly intimate. With only 650 seats, you aren't watching from a separate zip code; you are part of the environment. The show itself is a whimsical journey drawing deeply on Mexican heritage and history. The narrative follows a rebellious teenage girl who gets whisked away into a mysterious jungle created by her grandfather, an extravagant naturalist.
Inside this fantastical world, you'll encounter a strange band of half-human, half-animal assistants. The storyline is heavily inspired by the migratory journey of the monarch butterfly—a symbol of life passing from one generation to the next. It’s a quest for the meaning of life, told through the kind of jaw-dropping acrobatics and entrancing characters that Cirque is famous for.
A Feast for the Senses What sets JOYÀ apart from every other Cirque production globally is the dining. This is the only show where you can actually eat a full gourmet meal while watching the performance. It is a seamless blend of culinary and performing arts.
Depending on your budget and appetite, there are four distinct ways to experience the night:
- Show Only: Great for those who already had dinner. You can snag a high stool in the back rows or a seat at the lateral tables.
- Premium Center Seats: This comes with gourmet appetizers and a half-bottle of Champagne per person. Perfect if you want a nibble but not a full meal.
- Dinner + Show: Premium seats near the stage, a 3-course gourmet dinner, and a half-bottle of Champagne per person.
- VIP Experience: The best seats in the house. You get the 3-course dinner, unlimited Champagne (yes, unlimited), early access to the theater, and VIP service.
For those who aren't into bubbles, you can easily swap the Champagne for red or white wine, juice, or soft drinks.
