About this activity
Editor's Note
Look, most travel agencies will sell you a paragliding ticket like they're selling a loaf of bread—purely transactional, high-volume, low-soul. But after years of watching RevPAR fluctuate and seeing how "standardized" the industry has become, I've realized that Oludeniz is one of the few places where the reality actually justifies the lead. Is the industry over-commercializing the sky? Probably. But when you’re standing on the edge of Babadag at 2000 meters, the corporate cynicism just kind of melts away. It’s a raw, slightly terrifying, and utterly beautiful experience that makes you forget about occupancy rates and focus on the fact that you're quite literally dangling over a turquoise dream. It’s the kind of thing that reminds me why I got into this business before it became all about spreadsheets.
About the Tour
If you’re looking to ditch the mundane hotel pool and actually feel something, the Tandem Paragliding Experience in Fethiye is the gold standard. Forget the brochures; this is about the sheer physics of flying from one of the highest take-off points in Europe.
The Ascent to Babadag
Your journey begins with a pickup from your Fethiye hotel in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. You’ll head toward Babadag Mountain, a 45-minute drive that serves as a scenic prelude to the main event. Babadag isn't just any hill—it's the only mountain in Europe where you can launch from a staggering 2000-meter altitude directly over the sea. The backdrop it creates for Oludeniz is, quite frankly, imposing.
The Briefing & The Leap
Once you reach the summit, you’ll meet the team. These aren't just "guides"—they are professional pilots who live for the thermals. They'll walk you through the safety protocols, kit you out in the necessary gear, and answer those "will I actually fall?" questions you're likely holding in.
The takeoff is deceptively simple:
- The Hook-up: Your pilot attaches your harness to theirs.
- The Run: You both run toward the edge of the cliff.
- The Lift: Before your brain can fully process the "cliff" part, the wind catches the wing and you’re airborne.
30 Minutes of Pure Adrenaline
The flight typically lasts about 30 minutes, though Mother Nature (and the local weather conditions) ultimately holds the remote control on that. As you glide, you'll get a bird's-eye view of:
- Oludeniz and the Blue Lagoon: Seeing that famous curve of sand from 6,000 feet is a totally different beast than seeing it from a boat.
- Belcekiz and Kayakoy: The ghost village and the coastline stretch out like a map below you.
- Fethiye: The distant bustle of the city looks remarkably peaceful from this height.
Landing and Memories
Don't worry about trying to fumbel with your phone for a selfie while you're soaring. Your pilot is equipped with a camera to capture high-def photos and videos of your flight. Once you touch down softly on the beach, you can preview the footage and buy it if you want the proof that you actually did it. To wrap it all up, we’ll drive you back to your hotel so you can finally process the adrenaline dump.
