Editor's Note

Look, most travel platforms will feed you the same "magical getaway" script without mentioning the logistics that actually matter. In an industry obsessed with maximizing occupancy and squeezing every lead for a conversion, I prefer a bit of transparency. Genting Highlands is essentially a neon-lit playground perched on a mountain, and while the "city of entertainment" vibe is a bit polarizing, the engineering of the cable car alone is worth the price of admission. It's a high-volume route, sure, but if you want to see how Malaysia blends kitschy commercialism with genuine natural beauty, this is the one. Just a heads up—the mountain air is cool, but the pace is fast, so don't expect a slow-burn experience.

About the Tour

Escape the humid sprawl of Kuala Lumpur for a day and head into the clouds. This trip is a study in contrasts: you start at a massive limestone religious site and end up at a sprawling resort complex 1,800 meters above sea level.

The Journey Up: Genting Skyway

After your morning pick-up, you'll head toward the mountains. The highlight for many is the cable car ride. You'll glide over a 130-million-year-old rainforest, which offers a pretty surreal perspective as you approach the modern skyline of the Genting resort. It's a breath of fresh air—literally—from the city's heat.

At the Peak: Entertainment & Retail

Once you reach the top, the itinerary is yours to dictate. Genting Highlands is home to:

  • The Casino: Malaysia’s only land-based gambling venue.
  • Theme Parks: Both indoor and outdoor options, including the Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park.
  • Skydiving Simulator: The only one of its kind in Asia if you’re looking for a controlled adrenaline hit.
  • Shopping: Over 80 boutiques ranging from high-street to luxury brands.

The Descent: Batu Caves

On the way back down to the city, the tour stops at the world-famous Batu Caves. This is a massive limestone outcrop housing several Hindu temples. You’ll be greeted by the 140-foot golden statue of Lord Murugan before climbing the 272 vibrant, multi-colored steps. Watch out for the monkeys; they have a high RevPAR mindset when it comes to your snacks—they will find them, and they will take them.

⚠️ Important Maintenance Notice: Please note that between 12 JAN and 23 JAN 2026, the Awana SkyWay is closed for scheduled maintenance. During this window:
  • The Genting Skyway will be used as the primary cable car.
  • The stop at Chin Swee Temple will be skipped.
